Samples of Centaura Horseback Vacations
Centaura develops fully private, fully guided adventures around your priorities and time table. From camping to five star hotels, from beach to cloud forest. The common bond is our horses, which come along with us.
Taking horses from place to place in trucks and trailers is not an easy task, but this gives unity between you and your horse that cannot be maintained any other way. You get so accustomed to your horse, your saddle, and the horse gets to know your riding style.
We can also offer less expensive time with our horses, by riding near the stable (which has by far the best general opportunities to see diverse ecologies in Costa Rica). And we even have some pretty comfortable accommodations right at the stable, for people who want to literally live with their horses!
The Gohean honeymoon itinerary for 9 days takes in the active Arenal volcano, beach, cloud forest, some time off the horses for a naturalist float trip, and then a wild day on horses at a harvest festival, the Cabalgata.
Sam and Mary Tessitore, veteran horseback vacation explorers, spent 10 days with Centaura. Their horseback experience goes from active Arenal volcano to an indigenous community in a valley hidden in the mountains, to the cloud forest and then to a cabalgata. Oh, yes -- and white water rafting the famous Pacuare river, and a day in casinos in San José (which they skipped the second time they came, about 4 months later).
When Kevin Bahula called Centaura to arrange his horseback adventures he had only four days. He had read about the Cabalgata, and, as luck had it, his four days included San Josecito, the biggest and best of the bunch. The problem was places to stay -- so Kevin ended up staying in Centaura's country home with all the Centaura "regulars". Now Kevin is a "regular" too, and has been back (from Australia!), and will be back again soon... maybe permanently.
The Coast to Coast riding adventure is a really rugged trip with lots of camping, some excellent hotels, and a route that passes through all types of terrain. Since this is a private departure itinerary, it is recommended for people who have a cohesive riding group to make the "wagon train" work. No wagon train (but a few pack horses, for sure!) and some of the wildest country you'll see in Latin America.
